East Africa Regional Council of MLC

Josephine Njeri (President, MLC Kenya) reports to us from the recent E. Africa Regional Council of MLC meeting in Lusaka, Zambia. Her report is full of wonderful photographs and news from the meeting. Thank you, Josephine! (Be sure to take note of the length of travel by road from Kenya to Zambia….the commitment to attend the meeting is inspiring!)

Family Spirit in Ireland

It will take some time to fully process the richness of the retreat experience in Ireland. There was joy in the gathering, celebrating, and praying as the community of Our Lady of the Round Table. And there was the joy of sharing this experience within a family setting. It really affirmed for me, yet again, the reality of our Marianist family as FAMILY.

The Society of Mary community in Ballybrack showered hospitality on us from all angles. Temporal hospitality included wonderful meals, comfy rooms, and transportation and tours of local sites. Liturgical hospitality welcomed us into a praying community that reminded me of that “something” that we have as Marianists – the gift of communal prayer that is truly participatory, inclusive, compassionate, and non-hierarchical. It is prayer that reflects the Marian model of Church that we yearn for so much. Familial hospitality gifted us with the warmth and intimacy of family.

We were welcomed by the Brothers as true sisters in one family. They shared our excitement and reflected back to us the awesomeness of this historical moment in our community. Our closing liturgy included the gospel passage from John 14, “In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.” Fr. Neville summed up our experience during a shared homily, “you have opened a new room in the house”!

Our experience was enriched by sharing it with family, within family. Thank you to Frs. Neville and Mike, Brothers Jim, Fred, and Gerry, and Susan. May our loving God continue to richly bless our Marianist family in Ireland!
